So, it’s been a whole 3 months since my last post, to blog or not to blog? Whilst I’ve quite enjoyed not worrying about the blog or what anyone might think of my house renovation efforts for the summer, I have missed it as well. So I’m going to have another shot at it! This post is really just covering what’s been going on over the last 3 months, and addressing the feedback I’ve received from friends and readers.
How hard can it be to find a statement light???
Any blog followers will know that I recently committed to a house rewire. As part of the rewire, I opted to buy the new lights for the entire house and get them fitted straightaway. However, one particular light set me off on something of a quest. Who knew it would be so hard to find a statement light for the hallway?
To Re-wire or not to Re-wire?
When I posted about my research into light, I was researching in the expectation that lights would get installed as and when I re-decorated the rooms. At the same time I started consulting electricians with my list of requirements, which was quite extensive…. I was initially just wanting to move the overhead light and add some more sockets into the home office so I could progress from planning the home office to actually doing something in the room! But the job has grown and I have opted for the full re-wire! Read on for things to consider when planning electrical work in your home.
Lighting the Home
Even though I’ve previously re-wired a home, I have never put a huge amount of thought into my lighting, other than picking central lights and a few lamps that appealed to me. The main thing I know about light is – I like it a lot! I really like being able to alter light levels to suit whatever I’m doing, whether crafting (lots of light required) watching a film (just a bit of mood lighting does the trick), or anything in-between. Now I’m living in a home with high ceilings, and I have a real opportunity to go for some statement pieces. But budget is of course a consideration, so I’m shopping with care. Here I’m sharing a few options I’ve been considering for the fixed lighting and asking – what would you go for?
How many ways can you use an Owl?
Glass has been on my mind a lot recently, mainly because I am currently lighting obsessed! Watch out for a post soon on lighting options I’m considering for my home. But when I spied these little glass owl jars, I immediately thought of all sorts of ways they could be put to use accessorizing the home. Best of all – they are only 79p from your local Poundstretcher. Who’d have thought Poundstretcher would be selling a glam home accessory? So here’s my round-up of ways to use an owl in the home!
