What’s Blooming in June?
It’s Garden Bloggers Bloom Day time! This month I’m relying on the fact that the garden has done a good job of springing to life without much, or even any, help from me. I have been completely distracted by the grand re-wire project, which you can read about here. So the garden has been somewhat neglected this month. But read on to see what’s happening. Isn’t this a fabulous way of keeping a diary of your garden throughout the seasons? And also of reminding yourself what you need to do, which in my case is now a LOT of weeding!
To Re-wire or not to Re-wire?
When I posted about my research into light, I was researching in the expectation that lights would get installed as and when I re-decorated the rooms. At the same time I started consulting electricians with my list of requirements, which was quite extensive…. I was initially just wanting to move the overhead light and add some more sockets into the home office so I could progress from planning the home office to actually doing something in the room! But the job has grown and I have opted for the full re-wire! Read on for things to consider when planning electrical work in your home.
How to Calculate Heat Requirements for your Home
Somehow a whole fortnight has gone by since my last blog post! How has that happened? Well, I started off wanting to decorate my office (see my post on planning the home office here) and ended up signing up to get my house re-wired! There was so much to be done it made sense to do it all at once. So I’ve been trying to buy a house full of new light fittings, choose the location of every power point and light switch in my house, and had to pack up as much of the house as possible to give the electricians space to work. That has kept me BUSY! And it’s let to a lot of interesting ‘features’ emerging in my home like this:
What’s blooming in May
It’s time for the monthly round-up of what’s happening in the garden! It’s been a funny few weeks. The garden was all coming to life marvellously but the weather then took a turn for the cold, which damaged or killed quite a lot of emerging blooms. It happened immediately after I cut the lawn for the first time so I suspect the answer is to never cut the lawn again…The cold weather has also put me off getting out into the garden to be honest, so I still have a long to do list I haven’t got round to, including painting the fence, weeding, planting more veg, planting bulbs, pruning…. you get the idea.
Lighting the Home
Even though I’ve previously re-wired a home, I have never put a huge amount of thought into my lighting, other than picking central lights and a few lamps that appealed to me. The main thing I know about light is – I like it a lot! I really like being able to alter light levels to suit whatever I’m doing, whether crafting (lots of light required) watching a film (just a bit of mood lighting does the trick), or anything in-between. Now I’m living in a home with high ceilings, and I have a real opportunity to go for some statement pieces. But budget is of course a consideration, so I’m shopping with care. Here I’m sharing a few options I’ve been considering for the fixed lighting and asking – what would you go for?
