Welcome to The Creative Coastal Home!
I’ve now been in my lovely new home at the coast for 3 months! It has flown by. I posted a house tour when I first moved in, when quite a few rooms were full of boxes. Well, there are still a lot of boxes, although fewer than there was! But I thought I’d update it to give a better view of the place and a few hints of my future plans. Here goes!
How many ways can you use an Owl?
Glass has been on my mind a lot recently, mainly because I am currently lighting obsessed! Watch out for a post soon on lighting options I’m considering for my home. But when I spied these little glass owl jars, I immediately thought of all sorts of ways they could be put to use accessorizing the home. Best of all – they are only 79p from your local Poundstretcher. Who’d have thought Poundstretcher would be selling a glam home accessory? So here’s my round-up of ways to use an owl in the home!
Hands up: who keeps their old magazines?
In my post How to organize a magazine collection I talked about how I’m considering organizing my rather impressive magazine collection. I also admitted to keeping a lot more magazines than your average normal person (if any normal person would like to prove me wrong on this, please have a go!) Yes, the collection moved with me to The Creative Coastal Home, and I have some really good ideas on how I’m going to store and display them. That’s the subject of a future post! Here I’m taking a trip down memory lane and showing you how your magazine stash can provide plenty of inspiration for your home today, especially if you’re a crafter, diyer, or upcycler. Read on!
How’s Your Garden Growing this month?
Last month I joined bloggers around the World for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day and got lots of positive feedback. So thank you everyone who gave encouragement and advice to this novice gardener! I also posted when I first moved into The Creative Coastal Home, The Novice Gardener by the season: Winter, showing my garden by the seasons. This month I’m updating you on what’s in bloom in my English north-east coastal garden in Spring. Plants are starting to bloom – warning this post is photo heavy!

Who’s up for a free 60 minute makeover?
It was only 11 weeks ago that I moved into my lovely new home aka The Creative Coastal Home. I have lots of plans for it, but haven’t got stuck into decorating yet. I’m deliberating how to tackle some of the bigger things I’m considering (mainly electrics!) and spending quite a lot of time planning, which I’m planning a post on in future. I also think it’s important to settle into a space and get a sense of how you’d like to use it rather than rush in and make mistakes.
I haven’t even fully unpacked, because I’m expecting electrical work and decorating to cause a fair amount of disruption. I am of course pinning like mad to my Pinterest Boards and reading everything interiors and garden related that I can get my hands on. There is just SO MUCH inspiration out there! You can read my guide to some of the home and garden bloggers who inspire me here in What’s my home style part 2.
I am itching to get stuck in though so I set myself a mini challenge: to create a cosy little corner which can be a calm haven and an inspiration whilst I do my planning. I don’t want to spend any money because I haven’t decided on schemes yet. So here’s my challenge for my own 60 minute makeover: create a cosy chill-out corner in 60 minutes, just by using items I already own! Here’s my guide to how to do it yourself:
Could you complete a Creative Challenge?
I posted in December about my creative challenge for 2016, to knit 12 shawls in one year, and gave you the update on the first half of the challenge last week. Read on to find out how the second half of the challenge went!
